30 Days of Birthday Awesomeness: Day 4

Day 4 brought the start of another college football season. I LOVE football. And I especially love BYU football! I bleed blue! When football season starts again it's like suddenly everything is right in the world. I can't thing of anything much better then a saturday spent watching football!

So with today being the first BYU football game and I had a little party to celebrate. It was so much fun. My friend Jack came. And even though he doesn't like football he watched the whole game, never complained and was happy the whole time. He's really such a great friend! My other friends Trevor and Wes came along with my sister and niece. My little niece looked so cute in her cheerleading outfit.

The game was really good! There were a few times my heart was racing and times it almost stopped But my Cougs pulled out the win and all was right in my world!

Today was a great start to what I predict will be an amazing season! I had so much fun! GO BYU!

Day 2 and 3 have been pretty uneventful. I've worked and hung out at my house. I did watch Letters to Juliet with my sister and Mckenzi last night. I love that movie and it makes my desire to go to Italy that much stronger. And I always love seeing my little monkey (Mckenzi)!

I also saw Columbiana with Jack last night. It was an ok movie. I do enjoy watching a girl kick guys trash but I would've preferred she wear a bra while doing it!

Tonight I'm going to clean and get ready for the party to kick off BYU FOOTBALL tomorrow! I'm so excited!

30 Days of Birthday Awesomess: Day One!

I've always loved my birthday! Who doesn't love a day dedicated to celebrating them and the day they were born?! I also love other peoples birthdays! I think everyone should embrace the birthdays and celebrate like crazy. Through the years I've tried to find ways to make my birthday celebration to last longer and longer till finally I came up with birthday month! I was telling my friend Jack about it and he liked the idea so we decided to first do 25 days of Jack since he was turning 25 and then 30 days of Michelle (me) since I'm turning 30! Yes I can't believe I'm turning 30 but if I have to do it then what better way then with 30 days of celebrating?! I'm calling it 30 days of Birthday Awesomeness!

Yesterday was day one. It started by me working in the morning because even though I thought I'd be rich at 30, I still need my minimum wage job. While at work Jack came in and brought me a card that wished me a happy day one. It was so sweet and almost made me cry. He's such a great friend!

Later that day my sister posted this on my Facebook wall:

I loved it! She is such a thoughtful sister. And on a day that wasn't the best for her!

Later that night I went to see s special showing theater showing of Scarface. It was a lot of fun and I actually liked the movie better this time around then the first time I saw it. The only thing missing was my brother. He loves Scarface and it would have been nice if we could've watched it together. But I appreciate Brian leaving his work get together early to watch it with me.

So I had a great first day! It was much better then I thought it was going to be. And as I look forward to the next 29 days I know they are going to be amazing not because of all the events I have planned but because of the great people I get to spend them with! I have the best friends and family and that is the greatest gift I could ever ask for!

AVEDA HAIR & MAKE-UP SHOW

On March 26th my school Aveda held a fashion show to kick off Earth Month. All the proceeds went to Western Resource Advocates

Our group was in charge of the hair and make-up for one model. It was so much fun! I loved the way her hair and make-up turned out! Can't wait fir the next show!

Its been over a year since I've updated my blog and a lot has changed. First I became an Aunt! Twice!! Mckenzi and Hailey are the ligts of my life! I never knew it was possible to love anyone as much as I love those two girls! They bring new meaning to my life!

Second thing is I went back to school! I'm going to the Aveda Institute Provo. I absolutely love my school. It is really challenging but I like it. I feel that I am getting the best education! I recently did my first foil ever and it went really well. I really love cometology and am excited about the future!

Good things are happening to me and I look forward to everything that is to come!

Christmas Breakfast

I cooked breakfast for my family this Christmas. It wasn't anything too elaborate just a couple of casseroles, bacon, and saugage swirls. But I understand a little of what my mom went through when we were younger. I prepared the casseroles the night before but there was still a lot of cooking to do in the morning. I went back and forth from opening presents and cooking, trying not to burn anything while I was focused on my gifts! Mom's really must have super powers! Anyways, everyone seemed to enjoy the food so it was a success!

My sister is expecting her first child in August! I'm so excited! I knew way before my other family did because my sister wanted to tell them in person. Not saying anything was really hard. It was so fun to watch everyone's faces when my sister told them! My brother got teary eyed. So sweet. My sister is having a difficult pregnancy but she's strong so she'll be ok. I can't wait to meet my nephew or niece (I want a nephew!) I'm going to be the best aunt ever!!

I've been thinking that I need some hobbies so I decided I would try cooking. After all I love food! So I got some Paula Dean cookbooks from the library and cooked dinner tonight. I made Chicken Divan and Butter Sour Cream Biscuits. I think it turned out great! I look forward to the next dish!

BYU Practice

I love living in Utah! There are many reasons I love it but one of the biggest reasons is that I am close to BYU and can take advantage of many fun opportunities involving the football team. Like watching the final BYU football practice open to the public this morning! I was so excited! I even woke up early to get ready and make it to the 10am practice. I stayed there for 1 1/2 hours watching drills and scrimmages! I would've stayed longer but I had a chiropractor appointment. It was so fun and a good taste of BYU football. Something to tide me over till September 5th! I love BYU football and can't wait for the season to start!

This quote was always present in each of our houses while I was growing up. I never gave much thought about it till later in life. Many people have come into my life just at the time I needed them the most. I didn't always know I needed them but I did.

In the summer of 1992 my family and I moved to Manti, Ut and we became friends with the Jackson's! I didn't know at the time just how important these people would become to me and how big of an influence they would all have on my life. I was only 11 I didn't think about much besides boys and clothes! I was entering the 8th grade at the time and I was a ball of emotions and hormones (not much as changed!). I still remember the first time I saw Coach Jackson. He and his brother came over to talk to my dad I went out to see who had come over and I saw two very nice looking gentleman. I think I used the word hot when I was telling my mom who was at the door. Oh and ya my mom told my dad what I had said and of course my dad told coach Jackson. I was mortified when I found out. Now it's common knowledge that I thought Coach Jackson was good looking. Anyways it wasn't long after that, that I meant Coach Jackson's wife, Lisa and their 3 kids Ashley, Tylan and Braden. I became a regular babysitter for the Jackson's when they went out with my parents. Being a babysitter didn't win me any popularity points with Ashley or Tylan. And I can't say I would've liked me either. Being the oldest I hated babysitters too. They pretty much didn't like me and I hate to say the feeling was mutual. Soon Austin would join their family. He was such a cute baby! And then Channing! She was adorable. I loved her the moment I saw her. Her and Austin were my favorites! I loved babysitting them. But my all time favorite Jackson was Brenan (Coach Jackson). He was like a dad to me. He listened and gave me advice, and I knew I could trust him. But most of all he put up with me. I was a bit over the top back in those days. Very flirty and very annoying. But Coach Jackson and Lisa hung in there.

I was so sad when my family decided to move away. But our families stayed friends long after we moved from Manti. They came to visit us in Washington and California. I went back to Manti a few times. After high school I even lived with them for a short time. I know that was really hard on them but they did it anyways. I really enjoyed our last family trip together, mostly because I planned everything. I love schedules and lists! But visiting Disneyland, Sea World, the Zoo and the Ocean were awesome.

Coach Jackson and Lisa have been there for me through some of the toughest times of my life.

When I found out I was pregnant 6 years ago it was Coach Jackson and Lisa I called first. They were there for me without judgment. And when I was struggling with the decision to keep the baby or place the baby up for adoption they were there. I will never forget how Lisa told me I would be a great mom if that was my decision. It was her faith in me that made me realize I could be a good mom and that I didn't need to keep my baby just to prove that. She will never know how much her words affected me and my decision. I know the situation I was in couldn't help but disappoint coach Jackson but he never made me feel like a disappointment.

When my dad died almost 4 years ago Coach Jackson was there for me. He was the first person I called. He and his family came as soon as they could from Utah to California. He held my hand as I sat on the stand about to give a talk at the funeral. He also spoke at the funeral. And he was there at the graveside when we buried my dad. Coach Jackson has been there for me every day since that awful day doing his best to fill the void left by my dad. And he has done an amazing job.

Over the years I put Coach Jackson and Lisa through A LOT!! I pushed them away. I did my best to make it impossible for them to like me and even love me. I was annoying, needy, whinny, bitter, negative, critical...etc But they never walked away from me no matter what. They always loved me and had faith that I could become the person they saw inside of me. And recently they helped make just that happen. They introduced me to this personal effectiveness training that has helped me transform my life and be a better version of myself. There are not words enough to thank them for this gift. I am now able to around them in a healthy, non annoying way. It's wonderful! Sunday tacos is one of my favorite things. I feel like I am home when I am visiting them.

Recently I have been able to bond with their two older children Ashley and Tylan. I love them both so much. They are each remarkable people. Ashley has a family of her own which brought two new people to the family, Mavin and little Jackson. And Tylan is one of the most incredible young men I know. Each of the kids brings something to my life. They make me happy! I love each of them with all my heart and I would do anything for them.

Today I said good-bye to Tylan as he left for his mission in Oklahoma. I was doing pretty good with it till tonight. I will miss him so much. I have only recently got to know Tylan and the man that he is. He is amazing! He has taught be so much about love, faith and diligence. He has been through a lot especially in these last few months but he is now where he is supposed to be, serving the Lord. The people in Oklahoma do not know how lucky they are! He will bless so many people's lives, just as he has blessed mine.

I thank my Heavenly Father every day that the Jackson's-each one of them-came into my life. I can honestly say that I would not still be here on this earth if it wasn't for them. I don't know what I did to deserve such a blessing but whatever it was I am thankful. What President Spencer W. Kimball said is true, "God does notice us, and He watches over us. But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs."

Blind Side

So today I went and saw the movie Julie & Julia today. The movie was cute. A little long and slow. The highlight was a preview I saw before the movie. It brought tears to my eyes and gave me goosebumps. Now those of you who know me know I am pretty emotional but I normally don't cry at previews. I want to share it with all of you. Maybe it won't touch you the same but I have to share it anyways. ENJOY!!

Ok so I just watched the clips that were shown at comic con and I fell in love with Edward and this series all over again. I've never really liked the second book. Maybe because it is so depressing. When Edward leaves it is gut wrenching and depressing. I literally cried while reading it the first time. The second time I read it I was so mad at Edward. How could he leave? I can't see things from his point of view. The protecting Bella thing is crap! He's much better at protecting her then his leaving could be...OK so I'm a bit obsessed! Anyway...because of my dislike for book two I've wondered if I will like movie two. The trailer didn't convince me I would, especially since the showed a part that wasn't even in the book, and the forehead kiss Edwards gives as he leaves brought back all the sad feelings I had. BUT these clips, and especially the second clip, gave me new hope! Maybe it is the setting, Rome. Or maybe it's seeing Edward shirtless with his pants low enough to expose my ever so favorite male body part: the hip flexor!!! (See pictures I put together below)

3 months

So it's been three months since my last post. A lot of things have changed! The biggest things being I moved to Utah and my sister and mom got married...in the same week. I'm living in Orem with my aunt and Uncle. I work at a call center which is not the greatest job but, hey it's a job! I can't wait to start Cosmetology school this fall! I'm so excited! I've always wanted to do this but haven't for various reasons. But I'm not putting off my dreams anymore. Life is good right now. The only thing that will make it better is when BYU football starts September 5th!

YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT....

Is there anything worth fighting for? If so, what? And how do you define fighting? Does it mean you have to be loud, mean, defensive? Or can you fight for something by using knowledge and truth to educate? There is much being said about Proposition 8 and I do not all the facts. I do know that I am voting yes and that this is something worth fighting for. I am voting yes to protect the sancitity of marriage. I am voting yes because the family unit is important to me. I'm voting yes to insure that I will be able to get married where and how I choose. I'm voting yes because I do not want adoption services to close their doors because they won't let homosexuals adopt children. I am voting yes so that my children won't be forced to learn about homosexuality in sex education. I am voting yes because I truly believe that this issue will change the world and that it is worth fighting for.

Anyone who knows me knows when I fight for something I am not quiet, nice, or politically correct. And my first impulse in regards to this issue is to get all worked up, argue, debate...basically do anything I can to get me point of view heard and seen. But someone dear to me taught me that you don't have to fight like that when you have the truth. You can use the truth to educate others. So I am going to try to resist the urge to argue and just educate.

Please take the time to educate yourself about Proposition 8. Please don't allow the media to sway you. There are so many resources out there. Here is a little video that breaks it down. It's easy to follow:

2-0! GO COUGARS!!!

So last night when I was writing about what has happened since my last post I noticed I left out the most important events in my life; BYU FOOTBALL! The Cougars have won their first two games! And I am so excited!

The first game was against Northern Iowa. It was good game! I got a nervous when it became a 10 point game, but I have faith in my cougars, and they pulled ahead to win 41-17. They extended their winning streak to 11 straight games, which happens to be the nation's longest winning streak. But there were some concerns like ball protection, there were 5 fumbles. Come on guys, hold on to the ball! But they did win so I can't complain. Here is a great highlight video:

Then the next week they played the Washington Huskies. I was a bit nervous. BYU played Washington 6 times, dating back to 1985, and the Huskies have won 4 of those games. And the Cougars have never won in Seattle. But again I had faith.

I was really hoping to watch the game with some friends but I woke up early that morning with a horrible migraine. ): So I ended up watching it in bed. And the stress of the game, especially at the end did not do well for my migraine.

Most people ended up talking about the celebration call at the end of the game. With the score 21-28, Jake Locker (Washington's quarterback) scored a touchdown with 4 seconds left in the game. If the PAT was good then the game would be tied and it would go into the ever exciting over-time. But a celebration call took the extra point attempt into a 35 yard field goal like kick. Sure the celebration rule is dumb but it is a rule and Locker broke the rule. And Washington still had a chance to win. BUT defensive lineman Jan Jorgensen blocked the kick, giving the Cougars a 28-27 victory!

And just to clear it up this is the NCAA rule on celebration:
After a score or any other play, the player in procession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.

And Locker clearly threw the ball in the air and did not return it to the official. But you be the judge...

Coach Mendenhall addressed the media after the game. I really think he has so much class. I wish I could find what he said immediately after the game when asked about the celebration call. But coach Mendenhall has class in any interview.

On Saturday BYU faces the UCLA Bruins for the third time in 370 days. UCLA holds a 7-2 advantage in the series but BYU did beat them in the 2007 Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl game. However the handed the Cougars one of only two losses of the 2007 season. Both teams are good. UCLA has Norm Chow who is a Offensive genuis and if they played like they did against Tennese then they have a good chance. BYU has Max Hall leading the Cougars amazing offensive. So if both teams bring it Saturday's game will be amazing.

Oh the cougars better win because if they do not I have to do 5 push ups in front of cute boys. And I recently tried to do regular, not girl, push ups and I could barely do 2. So I have a lot on this game!! GO COUGARS!!!

Crazy But Boring!

So I haven't posted anything since August 10th. So when I sat down to post something I thought to myself, can life be crazy but boring at the same time? Well mine can. I really haven't done anything exciting. But I feel like I've been running around like a chicken with its head cut off!

My work started up again three weeks ago. I'm a site supervisor for the Boys and Girls Club in Fallbrook.

I really like my job. It gets stressful with 80+ kids and staff but it is definitely worth it. I especially love the people I work with. It is so nice to work with people that truly care about you and that you are friends with. It's awesome!

The rest of my time has been spent watching TV while I do stuff for work. And that may sound sad, boring and pathetic, but oh no. The new 90210 premiered last week and I was skeptical it could live up to the original. I LOVED the original 90210! Watched it religiously. I have seen every episode, some multiple times. World history I do not know but 90210 trivia I do!!! (Now that is a little sad) But I was pleasantly surprised with the new show. In fact it's one of my new favorites.

Other good shows that have come back are One Tree Hill, Top Design, Project Runway and America's Next Top Model. Plus I love this new show, Privileged. It's on after 90210 and it's super cute.

OK so other then work and TV nothing too exciting. What can I say...crazy but boring!!

So someone asked me if I blogged about anything else but football, so I decided to blog about another love of mine; the Olympics. The Olympics are awesome! It combines two things I'm passionate about; sports and my country. I am partial the the Summer Olympics. Swimming, gymnastics, diving, volleyball, softball, basketball, track...it's all GOOD!!! I can remember laying on my grandma's front room floor watching the 93 Olympics and thinking to myself that when the next summer Olympics happened I'd be 16. I couldn't wait. Now I'm about to turn 27. How time flies!

These olympics have gotten off to a great start. The opening ceremony was beautiful! And last night I watched Michael Phelps win his first gold medal of these games. I'm in love with Michael Phelps. He is so hot! And his body, dang! But wait back to the Olympics...When I watch the athletes I can't help but be proud and I still get goose bumps and teary eyed when the Star Spangled Banner plays as they place the gold medal around the neck of the winner. I feel like my dreams can come true and anything is possible! I can't wait to see what happens over the next two weeks! GO USA!!!

A DREAM COME TRUE!

No dreamer is ever to small; no dream is ever to big.

Everyone knows that I love BYU football. It is a part of me. I’ve loved it for as long as I can remember. And every year at the start of the new season I dream that I could somehow meet the players and coaches. Well last Thursday my dream came true! I went to the BYU Football Women’s Clinic. I wasn’t quite sure what it would be like, I only new that 25 dollars was a small fee to pay for anything dealing with the BYU football team. My friend and I drove from California all day Thursday and she even changed her schedule and left early so I could make it to the clinic on time. So I got to Utah, met up with my sister and mom and walked over to the stadium for the clinic. I was so excited with anticipation!

My mom, my sister, and I, along with 500 other women checked in, got our shirts and ate some food. After I ate I walked around the building we were in a realized that football players were all around us. The first one I met was Max Hall, the quarterback. Oh my gosh, I was like a giddy schoolgirl. I had him sign my shirt and took a picture with him! After I walked away from him I couldn’t help but scream! My sister and I spent the next little while finding all the football players, getting them to sign our shirts (which were ON us by the way, oh yea baby!), and taking pictures with them. Then we were asked by Coach Lamb to take a seat so they could start the presentation. My sister and I managed to find a way to the front and we sat a few feet away from the podium. We sang the fight song and then Coach Mendenhall spoke to us. He talked about “The Quest” for 2008. Taking the program from good to great! I loved listening to Coach Mendenhall. Coach Mendenhall then answered questions. Followed by the players answering questions. They were so nervous standing in front of 500 screaming woman. But they handle it well and answered the questions with a little bit humor. My favorite was when Harvey Unga introduced himself as Steve Young. (: After the Q&A we had the opportunity to meet the players and coaches again. Getting signatures and pictures of anyone we missed. Then we went to the field to do drills! Yes I said drills and I actually participated!

We then walked onto the field! Words cannot express the feelings I got as I walked onto the field. I couldn’t believe I was just walking right on to the field. We then did drills at 4 different stations. And let me just say that football drills look easy but they ARE SO NOT! I have a greater respect for anyone that has done these drills, and done them well! After the drills we came to midfield and watched a highlight film from last year on the big screen scoreboard. Before watching it Coach Lamb asked us to take a minute to realize where we were and what that meant. I immediately got the chills. I couldn’t believe I was sitting on the field Johnny Harline got the game winning touchdown against Utah in 2006, where Steve Young played, where Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer played, where the 1984 team beat Michigan and went on the be the National Champions! It was incredible. The highlight film was awesome as we relived the moments we loved from last season, especially the 49-yard reception on fourth-and-18 by Austin Collie to beat Utah. And the amazing block of UCLA field goal attempt in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Afterwards my sister and I just spent time laying on the field and taking goofy pictures! And although we had already taken pictures with Coach Mendenhall and had him sign our shirts and media guide we wanted to wait in line to get him to sign our posters. We were the last people in line so after he signed our stuff, again we walked across the field together conversing! I don’t think I could have been happier! Walking across LaVell Edwards stadium talking with the coach!!! Seriously!!

So this blog is really long and unless you like BYU you probably got bored after the first few sentences. But it was seriously the happiest, most exciting and fulfilling day of my life thus far. So many of my dreams and wishes have come true! Well at least the dreams and wishes relating to BYU football. Hopefully my dream of a perfect season will come true and one day, another National Championship. One things for sure, I will be back next year for the next clinic!

I LOVE BYU football. I have for as long as I can remember. It's hard to put into words why I have this love and where it comes from but I attempted to when I wrote this article for my friends hub page. Read it!

I've heard about blogging for awhile and most of my friends have them. These friends were surprised I didn't have a blog. And to tell you the truth I'm surprised I haven't had a blog before now too. A place where I can share my thoughts, opinions, feelings freely and without being interrupted, yelled at, laughed at, told I'm wrong, judged...well that's just PERFECT!!! When people meet me they soon find out two things about me 1. I LOVE all things BYU, especially BYU football and 2. I'm opinionated. And while these two things are true and an important to me there is much more. My family, friends, religion (and BYU) mean so much to me. I am intense, loyal, emotional, and sometimes crazy. I'm really excited about this blogging thing. I can't wait to share my opinion about...well everything!
